Bio Architecture Lab Inc
Bio Architecture Lab is a pioneer in the application of synthetic biology and enzyme design to the development of biofuels and renewable chemicals from aquafarmed, native macroalgae (seaweed), which is a low cost, scalable, and sustainable biomass.
With operations in Berkeley, CA and Santiago, Chile, Bio Architecture Lab was founded in 2007 in Seattle, WA by Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Yasuo Yoshikuni, President Yuki Kashiyama, and University of Washington Professor David Baker.
Bio Architecture Lab has attracted financial support from international financial and strategic investors. In 2009, BAL was additionally selected by the Department of Energy for an ARPA-E grant in partnership with DuPont as recognition of BAL's breakthrough energy research.
ECM invested in the company in 2009.
