ECM has invested in early stage technology companies in the upstream Oil & Gas- and Clean Energy sector since 2001.
Statoil Innovation and Hydro Technology Venture (the corporate venture capital arms of Statoil ASA and Norsk Hydro ASA respectively) both invested in early stage technology companies delivering to the upstream Oil & gas- and Clean Energy sectors since 2001. As a result of the merger of the Oil & Gas divisions of Norsk Hydro and Statoil in October 2007, the two entities were merged creating Statoil Venture AS.
In October 2008, the management company of Statoil Venture AS was spun out as an independent entity, named Energy Capital Management AS.
